How should my WordPress Blog installation be configured?

Question by thewitchescupboard: How should my WordPress Blog installation be configured?
I have a web host (http://bit.ly/9ktTPX) which allows unlimited subdomains to be added at no extra cost. I’ve added 6 or 7 subdomains, each with its own WordPress installation. I am now starting a blog at the main URL registered with my host, fullofjunk.com. I installed the blog into a subdirectory because I was afraid installing it in the root would disrupt the functioning of the subdomains I already have in place which work off of this main domain.

Would it be better to create a regular html page to be the index page, and therefore the page that comes up when the URL is typed, with an enter button to the blog? Or would it be better to follow the guidelines in the WP doc “Giving WordPress its Own Directory While Leaving Your Blog in the Root Directory” which would enable it to be stored in the subdirectory while appearing to be in the root? Are there SEO reasons for or against?

If it were me, I’d use WordPress over a static html page.

Given that all your other pages are likely to be WordPress, you will be more likely to update the home page if it is in WordPress rather than if it has to be altered in some other way.

There may be other SEO reasons against, but having regularly updated content is one important SEO reason for going for WordPress.
