How to Properly SEO a Niche Website

Website competition, general Internet marketing competition and niche marketing competition all have one thing in common: The websites need to be properly SEO’d in order to be search engine friendly and Internet user friendly. Without proper SEO, a niche website will linger pages back in the search results and users may never find it. Also, if a user does find it, they may leave quickly to never return if the website is not properly done. But how does a niche website owner or website owners in general SEO their site?

It all starts in the beginning when a domain name is being chosen. Unfortunately, many website owners do not realize that they chose a bad website name for SEO purposes until it is too late. If the website is new and not a lot has been done to it, a niche website owner may opt to change the domain without suffering any consequences from the search engines. If it is already a trusted website however, it is best to leave the domain name alone and know better next time.

When choosing a domain name, it is helpful to include relevant and main keywords in the domain name. If this is done, it is more search engine friendly and Internet users will also have an easier time remembering it. To increase the chances of it being remembered, site owners should also keep it relatively short in length as well.

Moving on, the navigation is a very important element to SEO. The navigation of the site should be easy and self explanatory to follow for both the search engines and the user. Therefore, it should be precise and it shouldn’t include any flash or graphics which make it harder for the search engine spiders to navigate around.

From both the search engine and user perspective, websites should also load quickly without too much delay. A slow website will prompt users to leave and it also may prompt search engine spiders to leave since the engine’s software program might think that it reached a dead end and cannot go any further. Using heavy flash, graphics and videos can all slow a website down to a crawl if the site is not set up correctly.

Finally, the content on the website should be kept current, updated when necessary and it should also contain keywords that are relevant to the niche website. The search engines and users try to find the meaning or relevance of a website and one the easiest ways to pinpoint the relevance and meaning is by adding informative content that uses proper keywords and proper keyword placement.

This is not everything that a niche website owner needs to know about SEO. SEO is often a process that takes time, especially if one has never dabbled in it before. However, by implementing the suggestions above, SEO is better understood and there is a good starting point for anyone who is up to the task.
